A single-herb liquid extract of dried plant material of Piper longum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

A long pepper is not a berry but a whole inflorescence: dozens of minute fruits fused together into a hard greyish catkin two or three centimetres long, which is dried whole. It was known in the Mediterranean before black pepper was, valued more highly by the Romans, and the Sanskrit name for it, pippali, is where the word pepper came from in the first place. The heat is piperine, with a sweeter, more aromatic edge than black pepper has.

Glycerite: Piper longum, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Long pepper increases how much of some medicines the body absorbs. If you take any prescription medicine, speak to a pharmacist first. Not for use in pregnancy. Do not use if you have a stomach ulcer.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
